OUR ROOTS…

openenrollmentpackages Our story begins with our Tupuna, Estella Reid. A native to American Samoa from the village of Faleniu. Estella voyaged the crystal seas of the Pacific and came to the shores of Lāʻie, Oʻahu, in 1946 where the roots of her family still grow. Estella’s endeavors eventually led her to California in 1950. In 1965, NONOSINA POLYNYESIA DANCE INC.  was born. Today, Nonosina humbly celebrates 52 years of art, culture, dance, music, and creativity!

11With Nonosina’s roots steadfast and their trunk standing firm, their branches continue to grow. Nonosina was passed to Estella’s youngest daughter, Riki Liufau, affectionately known to many as Aunty Riki. Aunty Riki Broke barriers within the Polynesian dance competition circuit by storm, Riki led the group to new horizons.

Riki’s eldest son, Mevina, was passed the torch & blessing in 1998 and lead the group after extensive training and research undergone in Tahiti. Mevina is a pioneer in innovating Tahitian music, dance and choreography.

Tiana has brought Tahitian dance to national television on shows like So You Think You Can Dance, and was appointed Motion Curator and Choreographer of Disney’s production team for the animated motion film “MOANA”! Tiana’s choreography stems from a traditional school of thought remixed with modern movement.

Nonosina Polynesia Dance Inc. has left a legacy, style and specific sound in the Polynesian realm, both inside and outside of the Polynesian triangle, that is very distinctive & creative. Nonosina is a family-community & school of Polynesian dance that strives to always give respect to the motherland of this art that we love, Polynesia.
